After the fast and furious matches of the North American LCS qualifiers, the European LCS was set to bring the action again. With the top two teams from each of the groups moving on to compete in Day 2, it was win or go home for half the teams competing.
In group A, GIANTS! Gaming blitzed over the heavily-favored Team Fnatic, defeating them in impressive style and securing the first spot of the day with two smooth wins. But Fnatic, the Season 1 champions, rallied strong and defeated Anexis eSports and Team ALTERNATE to secure the second place in their group.
Many predicted that Group B would be the toughest competition because of the relatively close skill matchups of the teams involved, and the matches did not disappoint. After the dust settled, both Millenium and DragonBorns advanced from their group to Day 2, with the latter picking up wins against Team LoLPro and Acer.
In Group C, strongly-favored Against All Authority did not disappoint, claiming the top spot after two convincing victories against the Copenhagen Wolves and TCM Gaming. But the Wolves refused to surrender their chance at going pro, and cruised to a second place finish after soundly beating TCM and Trudniej Już Nie Będzie one after another.
Group D had fewer matches due to Team Solo Mebdi being disqualified before the start of the tournament. Of the three teams, fan-favorites MeetYourMakers and Mouzeports both soundly defeated EloHell, with MYM receiving a bye due to being scheduled to face Team Mebdi. EloHell and Mouz played each other twice to make up for the difference, with the latter emerging victorious both times.
With only eight teams remaining, the four all-important slots in the EU LCS are up for grabs tomorrow on Day 2. Be sure to check out Saturday’s action, starting when Millenium faces the Copenhagen Wolves at 10:00am CEST, 1:00am PST.
